Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureA+
Penix Jr. is the plan now, and the Bears grade out a B+. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on Michael Penix Jr., and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
If Kamara pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. With interior defensive lineman and cornerback unsolved, spending premium capital on tight end is the choice that costs them.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Landing Morgan that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Michael Penix Jr.
In the 12th overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick20
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick 20 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick37
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
They reached into another round for Zach Frazier, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick51
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 19 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick69
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
No edge and no loss on Cooper Beebe in pick No. 69; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ja'Lynn Polk in the Round 3 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick78
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks at the 78th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick81
Rnd3
Mohamed Kamara
A real head-scratcher, Mohamed Kamara in No. 81 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick111
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
A reach on Johnny Wilson in Round 4, Pick 11; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick119
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
A premium they did not need to pay, Theo Johnson a notch or two before his time. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick121
Rnd4
Dylan Laube
Dylan Laube at pick No. 121 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick123
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
Of all the spots to shop, they chose tight end. Ben Sinnott in the 123rd pick leaves interior defensive lineman and cornerback for later.
Pick143
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at the 143rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick146
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo at slot 146 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
