Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B+
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a B+ to match. Start where it matters. The Bears took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Hart value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The cost of the Murphy reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In No. 1 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Pick19
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
A straight-up fair deal on Chris Braswell at pick 43, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick52
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick72
Rnd3
Xavier Worthy
They let Xavier Worthy come to them and pounced at the 72nd overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick74
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
They took Cooper Beebe at par in pick No. 74, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Legette. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick76
Rnd3
Kamren Kinchens
Kamren Kinchens at the 76th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick77
Rnd3
Gabriel Murphy
A reach for Gabriel Murphy in slot 77; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick111
Rnd4
Mekhi Wingo
No edge and no loss on Mekhi Wingo in pick No. 111; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick113
Rnd4
Cam Hart
They will replay Cam Hart at No. 113 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick114
Rnd4
Beaux Limmer
Beaux Limmer at the 114th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick123
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
No drama and no debate, Cedric Gray went about where he belonged in the 123rd pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
