Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A
ValueA- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
Maye is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: A.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Laiatu Latu got past him. The Bears do not have to explain a thing at the Round 3 slot.

Drake Maye gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The phones were where this weekend was really won. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The Tyreek Hill deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

In the end it comes back to Drake Maye, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In pick 9 they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick27 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In No. 27 they get the face of the franchise, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
Fair-plus on Troy Fautanu, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick66 Rnd3 Laiatu Latu
Taking Laiatu Latu in pick No. 66 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick75 Rnd3 Kamren Kinchens
Kamren Kinchens at the 75th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick111 Rnd4 Caelen Carson
Caelen Carson in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick123 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea in pick 123 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick143 Rnd5 Javion Cohen
No edge and no loss on Javion Cohen in slot 143; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
