Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Bears for Paul Jr.: B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Chris Paul Jr. had no business being available in the 203rd overall pick, and the Bears did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

The Presley reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
Ashton Jeanty at pick No. 9 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick35 Rnd2 Princely Umanmielen
Princely Umanmielen in the 35th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
A tidy bit of business in No. 41, where Tate Ratledge graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick73 Rnd3 Alfred Collins
Nothing to complain about; Alfred Collins went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick147 Rnd5 Lathan Ransom
They barely believed it either: Lathan Ransom still on the board at pick 147. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick203 Rnd6 Chris Paul Jr.
Chris Paul Jr. at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick226 Rnd7 Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo at slot 226 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick244 Rnd7 Brennan Presley
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Brennan Presley well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
