Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesC+ FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Bears for Smith: B-.

The Bears did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Brashard Smith fell into the Round 4 slot. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

Every board in the league had Grant lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Princely Umanmielen
In the 22nd overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
Value with a capital V on Tate Ratledge in pick 39, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick42 Rnd2 Charles Grant
Charles Grant at No. 42 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick60 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
The board had cheaper options than Tyleik Williams at Round 2, Pick 28, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick73 Rnd3 Malachi Moore
Circle this one: Malachi Moore at slot 73 is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick112 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Somehow Jake Majors was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick138 Rnd4 Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith in pick No. 138 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick148 Rnd5 Deontae Lawson
A linebacker of that caliber at the 148th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick203 Rnd6 Kyren Lacy
Kyren Lacy in the Round 6 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick226 Rnd7 Aydan White
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Aydan White. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick244 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in pick No. 244 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
