FutureA
Quarterback settled, Nix in the fold, and a D for the Bears. The Bears looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Charles Turner III at pick No. 238 regardless, 48 picks early.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Whatever Bo Nix becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center, a steep price for the projection.
Pick44
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
The board had Keon Coleman higher than slot 44, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick51
Rnd2
Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at pick 51 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick52
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
A premium they did not need to pay, Bralen Trice a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick75
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in the 75th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick77
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks at pick No. 77 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick83
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Nothing to complain about; Cooper Beebe went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick100
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Johnny Wilson this early at No. 100. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick111
Rnd4
Mekhi Wingo
Mekhi Wingo in pick No. 111 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick120
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
They liked Ben Sinnott enough to skip the value, taking him in the 120th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick123
Rnd4
Dylan Laube
Dylan Laube at pick 123 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick143
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick at slot 143 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick154
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
Good price on Jarrian Jones in the Round 5 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick238
Rnd7
Charles Turner III
A wild overpay on Charles Turner III in the 238th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
