FutureA+
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Bears a A-. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Bears would have aced it. Gavin Bartholomew at Round 7, Pick 11 is 35 spots clear of where he belonged. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Davante Adams deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In the end it comes back to Jared Verse, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Jared Verse
Jared Verse at the Round 1 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick15
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
They paid sticker price for Rome Odunze in No. 15, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick43
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
They liked Cooper Beebe enough to skip the value, taking him in the 43rd overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick74
Rnd3
Mekhi Wingo
No edge and no loss on Mekhi Wingo in pick No. 74; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick75
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
They went early on TreVeyon Henderson in Round 3, Pick 11, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick79
Rnd3
Rod Moore
They took Rod Moore at par in the 79th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick110
Rnd4
Seth McLaughlin
A reach for Seth McLaughlin in the 110th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick126
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis at the 126th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick147
Rnd5
Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander in pick 147 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick188
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs at No. 188 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick231
Rnd7
Gavin Bartholomew
A wild overpay on Gavin Bartholomew in Round 7, Pick 11, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A minor itch, scratched.
