Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureA+
The Bears robbed the room for McClellan. Final grade: A-. If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Bears, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McClellan. Every board in the league had Wiley lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
In the end it comes back to Joe Alt, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In the 2nd overall pick they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick14
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In pick 14 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick55
Rnd2
Adisa Isaac
A reach on Adisa Isaac in Round 2, Pick 23; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick75
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Johnny Wilson. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick87
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
The board had Cooper Beebe higher than slot 87, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick110
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III in No. 110 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick127
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
They paid sticker price for Tommy Eichenberg in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
By-the-book stuff, Jaylin Simpson at pick 146 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick164
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 28 with a little surplus value in LaDarius Henderson. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick173
Rnd5
Jared Wiley
They reached into another round for Jared Wiley, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick186
Rnd6
Omar Speights
They liked Omar Speights enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 186. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick212
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
A slide stopped in slot 212, with De'Corian Clark worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick232
Rnd7
Jase McClellan
Jase McClellan at the 232nd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
