FutureA+
Williams is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: C+. The search is over. The Bears handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.
Reaching for Milton III left real value on the table behind him. That Gadsden II pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
With edge rusher and linebacker unsolved, spending premium capital on DT-EDGE is the choice that costs them. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick15
Rnd1
Xavier Legette
In slot 15 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick70
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
They read the board right and Denzel Burke was the payoff at pick No. 70. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick74
Rnd3
Maason Smith
A want over a need in the Round 3 slot: Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE while edge rusher and linebacker keeps waiting.
Pick110
Rnd4
Audric Estime
Audric Estime in the 110th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick115
Rnd4
Kiran Amegadjie
The board had Kiran Amegadjie higher than the 115th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick116
Rnd4
Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker slipping to No. 116 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick126
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in pick 126; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick147
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Joe Milton III. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick188
Rnd6
T.J. Sanders
T.J. Sanders in Round 6, Pick 13 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick231
Rnd7
Oronde Gadsden II
Steal is underselling it; Oronde Gadsden II at pick No. 231 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick254
Rnd7
Turner Corcoran
No drama and no debate, Turner Corcoran went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
