FutureA
The Bears finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D. The Bears looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Theo Johnson at pick No. 89 regardless, 47 picks early. A D that will need time and luck to look better.
Bo Nix is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
They will answer for taking tight end early while interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots went begging. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In No. 22 they get the arm they will build around, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
Nothing to complain about; Keon Coleman went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick50
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice in Round 2, Pick 18 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick53
Rnd2
Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson in the 53rd overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick57
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
No edge and no loss on Zach Frazier in pick 57; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick58
Rnd2
Ricky Pearsall
Ricky Pearsall in slot 58 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
They did well to land Jaden Hicks in Round 3, Pick 11, just ahead of his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick88
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cooper Beebe in pick 88. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick89
Rnd3
Theo Johnson
A real head-scratcher, Theo Johnson in slot 89 is miles ahead of his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick111
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
They paid a round early for Johnny Wilson in the 111th pick, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Pick123
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Ben Sinnott at tight end with interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots open.
Pick143
Rnd5
Dylan Laube
They went early on Dylan Laube in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick204
Rnd6
Garret Greenfield
A premium they did not need to pay, Garret Greenfield a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
