Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Bears bet the future on Williams. The board says D.

The Bears clearly saw something nobody else did in Steve Linton, taking him 43 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. The math is unkind, and the D follows.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Caleb Williams gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They banked enough surplus on McCoy to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Caleb Williams. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick32 Rnd1 Keon Coleman
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target. A real need, handled.
Pick51 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia at the 51st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
The board had Jeremiah Trotter Jr. higher than pick 75, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick95 Rnd3 Braelon Allen
A reach for Braelon Allen in slot 95; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick110 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
A clean, defensible pick in the 110th overall pick with a little surplus value in Blake Fisher. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick130 Rnd4 James Williams
They took James Williams at par in pick No. 130, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick146 Rnd5 Steve Linton
Steve Linton at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick207 Rnd6 Bru McCoy
Somehow Bru McCoy was still sitting there in the 207th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick212 Rnd6 Akheem Mesidor
The board had cheaper options than Akheem Mesidor at pick 212, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick219 Rnd6 Fentrell Cypress II
They jumped the gun on Fentrell Cypress II, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
