Draft Grade — Bears
Overall F
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureD
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a F to match.

The phones were a trap the Bears kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. It bottoms out at a F.

Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. They will need Rice to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

The Newton pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick 1 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick8 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
Fair-plus on Malik Nabers, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick43 Rnd2 Kris Jenkins
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Jenkins at pick No. 43, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick75 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at Round 3, Pick 11 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick79 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
A conviction pick on Brenden Rice at the 79th pick that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
Pick111 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
They jumped the gun on Johnny Wilson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick123 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
The board had Sataoa Laumea higher than No. 123, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick143 Rnd5 Josh Newton
Josh Newton in the 143rd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
