The Bears left with their quarterback, and a D to match.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Bears would have aced it. Gavin Bartholomew at slot 226 is 40 spots clear of where he belonged. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.

The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.

They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Egbuka.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
