Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with Williams: D-.

The Bears lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.

Everything downstream of Caleb Williams depends on Caleb Williams, and the building knows it. Reaching for Johnson left real value on the table behind him.

They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. They banked enough surplus on Puni to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick 1 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In No. 9 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at slot 43 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick78 Rnd3 Roman Wilson
By-the-book stuff, Roman Wilson at the 78th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick81 Rnd3 Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske at Round 3, Pick 17 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick111 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
They paid a round early for Darius Robinson in the Round 4 slot, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick119 Rnd4 Dominick Puni
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Dominick Puni in the 119th overall pick, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick123 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
They reached a country mile for Theo Johnson at pick No. 123, and the board is aghast. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick142 Rnd5 Braelon Allen
They liked Braelon Allen enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 5 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick162 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at No. 162 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick197 Rnd6 Christian Jones
No drama and no debate, Christian Jones went about where he belonged in slot 197. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
