Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesB FutureB
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Bears a B.

The tape said wait; the Bears did not. Luke McCaffrey went at Round 4, Pick 10, a good 31 picks before the board was ready. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Joe Alt
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joe Alt. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In pick 9 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick17 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In slot 17 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35 Rnd2 Kamren Kinchens
By-the-book stuff, Kamren Kinchens at No. 35 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick66 Rnd3 Caelen Carson
No drama and no debate, Caelen Carson went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 2. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick75 Rnd3 Marist Liufau
They paid a round early for Marist Liufau in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick79 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at the 79th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick110 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
This one needs a full-page explanation: Luke McCaffrey in Round 4, Pick 10, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick122 Rnd4 Jordan Travis
A reach on Jordan Travis in No. 122; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
Pick146 Rnd5 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott in pick No. 146 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick182 Rnd6 Kitan Oladapo
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kitan Oladapo in the 182nd overall pick. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
