FutureA+
The Bears turned the phones into found money: A-. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Bears came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.
Reaching for Brooks left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through linebacker. Adding Cooper Kupp by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In slot 5 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick6
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In the Round 1 slot they get a red-zone target to build around at fair value. More want than need.
Pick38
Rnd2
Nate Wiggins
Nate Wiggins in the 38th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick105
Rnd4
Adisa Isaac
A premium they did not need to pay, Adisa Isaac a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick106
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara in pick No. 106 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick132
Rnd4
Reuben Fatheree II
The board had Reuben Fatheree II higher than Round 4, Pick 32, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick142
Rnd5
Fabien Lovett
Fabien Lovett in pick 142 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick183
Rnd6
Jonathon Brooks
Jonathon Brooks at No. 183 is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick226
Rnd7
Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe at the 226th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
