Best value of the weekend goes to the Bears for Lawson: B. The board owed the Bears one, and it paid up: Deontae Lawson, the No. 81 name on the board, sitting there at the 148th pick like a gift left on the doorstep. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Burch has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Mason Graham
Mason Graham at the 12th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge is a better player than Round 2, Pick 7 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker at No. 41 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch at pick No. 72 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jake Majors
The board had cheaper options than Jake Majors at the 76th pick, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick147
Rnd5
Devin Neal
Devin Neal in pick 147 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick148
Rnd5
Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
