FutureB-
A passer of the future in Williams, and a D-, for the Bears. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. Reaching for Allen left real value on the table behind him.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
A straight-up fair deal on Caleb Williams at No. 1, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick9
Rnd1
Malik Nabers
Fair-plus on Malik Nabers, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
The board had cheaper options than Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick No. 44, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard slid further than he should have, and the 75th pick is lovely value for the safety. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick110
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick122
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in slot 122 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell at pick 146 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick150
Rnd5
Javion Cohen
Good price on Javion Cohen in the 150th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
