The Bears let Singleton fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-. The Bears spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Nicholas Singleton, the No. 99 name on the board, in No. 197.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Every board in the league had Sawyer lower, and that gap is the story.
The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Jack Sawyer
In pick No. 14 they get a bendy edge with upside, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
T.J. Sanders
They let T.J. Sanders come to them and pounced at pick 39. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
A slide stopped in slot 41, with Tate Ratledge worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick72
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild at Round 3, Pick 8 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick116
Rnd4
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor at No. 116 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jake Majors
They barely believed it either: Jake Majors still on the board at the Round 5 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick197
Rnd6
Nicholas Singleton
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Nicholas Singleton in the 197th overall pick, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick233
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
Circle this one: Jordan Hancock at the 233rd pick is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
