Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB- TradesF FutureA
A franchise passer in Penix Jr. headlines a D weekend for the Bears.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A D that will need time and luck to look better.

So much rides on Michael Penix Jr. that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

Jacobs has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In pick 1 they get a weapon on the perimeter. A real need, handled.
Pick5 Rnd1 Michael Penix Jr.
In No. 5 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick19 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In the 19th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick69 Rnd3 Princely Umanmielen
By-the-book stuff, Princely Umanmielen at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick79 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
A straight-up fair deal on TreVeyon Henderson at Round 3, Pick 15, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick94 Rnd3 Smael Mondon Jr.
They took Smael Mondon Jr. at par in pick No. 94, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick105 Rnd4 Jalen McMillan
Jalen McMillan in slot 105 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick132 Rnd4 Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop in the 132nd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick142 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Joe Milton III at the Round 5 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick167 Rnd5 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in pick No. 167 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick183 Rnd6 Bryson Nesbit
They paid a round early for Bryson Nesbit in the 183rd pick, more than the board wanted. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick226 Rnd7 Beaux Collins
Beaux Collins at No. 226 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
