Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureA+
A solid, sensible weekend for the Bears: B+.

The Bears looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took LT Overton at the 134th overall pick regardless, 43 picks early. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.

The Lacy steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The Bears paired the rookies with proven help, Broderick Washington leading the way. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick54 Rnd2 Dylan Fairchild
By-the-book stuff, Dylan Fairchild at pick 54 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick82 Rnd3 Bradyn Swinson
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bradyn Swinson. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick129 Rnd4 Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick134 Rnd4 LT Overton
A swing that ignored the value entirely, LT Overton well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick155 Rnd5 Woody Marks
They paid sticker price for Woody Marks in pick No. 155, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick204 Rnd6 Aubrey Burks
Aubrey Burks at the 204th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick239 Rnd7 Anthony Belton
You do not let an offensive lineman like Anthony Belton reach No. 239 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Pick241 Rnd7 Tony Grimes
Good price on Tony Grimes in pick No. 241, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick249 Rnd7 Kyren Lacy
Circle this one: Kyren Lacy at Round 7, Pick 35 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
