Draft Grade — Bears
Overall C
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureA
The Bears got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Bears took Desmond Evans a full 44 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. The final tally is a middling C.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Moore. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

If Laiatu Latu and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
In the 7th pick they get a disruptor off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick10 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In pick No. 10 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick74 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in slot 74 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick90 Rnd3 Rod Moore
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Rod Moore in pick 90, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick126 Rnd4 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at No. 126 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick147 Rnd5 Justin Eboigbe
A big swing on Justin Eboigbe at Round 5, Pick 11, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick188 Rnd6 Austin Stogner
They paid sticker price for Austin Stogner in pick 188, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick195 Rnd6 Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster at No. 195 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick210 Rnd6 Joshua Gray
They read the board right and Joshua Gray was the payoff at pick No. 210. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick231 Rnd7 Desmond Evans
They left a pile of value on the table to take Desmond Evans this early at the 231st overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
