The Bears did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Bears would have aced it. Braiden McGregor at No. 143 is 72 spots clear of where he belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Marvin Harrison Jr. at the 1st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick9
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In pick 9 they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at Round 3, Pick 11 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
Pick111
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks at No. 111 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick123
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in slot 123 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick143
Rnd5
Braiden McGregor
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Braiden McGregor. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
