FutureA+
Quarterback settled, Daniels in the fold, and a C- for the Bears. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Bears' quarterback, full stop.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
However the rest shakes out, Hunter at that price is a win they earned. If McCaffrey pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In slot 5 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In pick 9 they get juice off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick37
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
They paid sticker price for Tyler Guyton in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick44
Rnd2
Adonai Mitchell
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 12, where Adonai Mitchell graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick69
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at the 69th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick74
Rnd3
Blake Corum
Blake Corum in pick No. 74 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
The board had cheaper options than Sedrick Van Pran at No. 75, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick109
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
They did well to land Matt Goncalves in the 109th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick110
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
A tidy little value on Jaden Hicks in slot 112, a step better than break-even. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick122
Rnd4
Luke McCaffrey
A big swing on Luke McCaffrey at Round 4, Pick 22, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick145
Rnd5
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at No. 145 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick169
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo in pick No. 169 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick199
Rnd6
Jaylen Harrell
No drama and no debate, Jaylen Harrell went about where he belonged in the 199th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jontrey Hunter
Value with a capital V on Jontrey Hunter in the 236th overall pick, a genuine coup. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
