FutureA+
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Bears: B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bears did exactly that with Joe Milton III in slot 123.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Oladapo. The veteran additions, Darius Slayton chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
Olumuyiwa Fashanu in slot 15 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick38
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
They paid sticker price for T.J. Tampa in the 38th pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick39
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
No drama and no debate, Kris Jenkins went about where he belonged in pick No. 39. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick47
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Nothing to complain about; Xavier Worthy went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick59
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson at pick 59 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jonathon Brooks
Jonathon Brooks at the Round 3 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at Round 3, Pick 11 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick85
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Khyree Jackson. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick111
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in pick 111 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick123
Rnd4
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at the 123rd pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick128
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones at pick No. 128 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick143
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
No edge and no loss on Ben Sinnott in the 143rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick185
Rnd6
Kitan Oladapo
They read the board right and Kitan Oladapo was the payoff at No. 185. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick193
Rnd6
Christian Jones
Christian Jones at slot 193 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick236
Rnd7
Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo at slot 236 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick245
Rnd7
Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones at No. 245 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
