The Bears fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A-. The Bears bet big and early on Malik Washington, 49 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, with Dallas Turner leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In No. 9 they get a true top target. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick21
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
Dallas Turner slid further than he should have, and the 21st overall pick is lovely value for the edge rusher. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
Value said wait; Sedrick Van Pran in Round 3, Pick 3 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick71
Rnd3
Byron Murphy II
Byron Murphy II in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick75
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Haynes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick110
Rnd4
Malik Washington
Malik Washington at pick 110 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick125
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea in the 125th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick146
Rnd5
Cam Hart
They barely believed it either: Cam Hart still on the board at pick No. 146. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick232
Rnd7
Cody Schrader
Cody Schrader at slot 232 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
