The Bears cashed the board's mistake on Neal: B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Devin Neal got past him. The Bears do not have to explain a thing at No. 144. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will need Fairchild to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In pick 7 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
A slide stopped in the 39th overall pick, with Tate Ratledge worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick41
Rnd2
Dylan Fairchild
A conviction pick on Dylan Fairchild at the 41st pick that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick71
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Nice patience on Alfred Collins, who had no business lasting to the Round 3 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick144
Rnd5
Devin Neal
Devin Neal in No. 144 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
