The Bears found their guy under center in Nix: A-. The Bears spent the pick that matters most on Bo Nix, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. On value alone, Baker makes the weekend a net positive.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
In the end it comes back to Bo Nix, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick 10 they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick29
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick39
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
A clean, defensible pick in slot 39 with a little surplus value in Chop Robinson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick48
Rnd2
Kalen King
Good price on Kalen King in pick No. 48, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick73
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
Nothing to complain about; Payton Wilson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick84
Rnd3
Blake Corum
Blake Corum slid further than he should have, and the 84th overall pick is lovely value for the running back. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick124
Rnd4
Beau Brade
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 24, where Beau Brade graded well above the range. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick146
Rnd5
Javon Foster
You do not let an offensive lineman like Javon Foster reach the 146th pick and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick157
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
A slide stopped in the 157th pick, with Luke McCaffrey worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick165
Rnd5
Sincere Haynesworth
A quiet steal in No. 165: Sincere Haynesworth for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick205
Rnd6
Javon Baker
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Javon Baker in pick 205, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
