Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueB-

TradesB-
FutureB-
A passer of the future in Williams, and a B-, for the Bears. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The McMahon pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The Hardy pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In pick No. 1 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy at No. 75 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick110
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
They paid sticker price for Ainias Smith in the 110th overall pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick146
Rnd5
Layden Robinson
A reach on Layden Robinson in slot 146; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick164
Rnd5
Grayson Murphy
Grayson Murphy at pick 164 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick186
Rnd6
Braiden McGregor
The board had cheaper options than Braiden McGregor at the 186th pick, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick210
Rnd6
Dylan McMahon
Dylan McMahon at Round 6, Pick 35 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick231
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
Daequan Hardy slid further than he should have, and the Round 7 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick232
Rnd7
Blake Watson
A slide stopped in the 232nd overall pick, with Blake Watson worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
