rac DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Bears. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Bears would have aced it. Dominic Zvada at the 245th pick is 44 spots clear of where he belonged. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
It is not that Kilgore is a bad player; it is that the Bears had louder needs to answer first. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They banked enough surplus on Wheatley to cover a lot of smaller sins.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Joshua Josephs
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick61
Rnd2
Darrell Jackson Jr.
They paid sticker price for Darrell Jackson Jr. in the 61st overall pick, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick93
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
A quiet steal in pick 93: Zakee Wheatley for less than the market said. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick128
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Jalon Kilgore in No. 128 leaves running back, cornerback and other spots for later.
Pick168
Rnd5
Jaden Greathouse
Fair-plus on Jaden Greathouse, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick238
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in the Round 7 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick245
Rnd7
Dominic Zvada
They talked themselves into Dominic Zvada at the 245th pick, and the board did not agree. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
