Beardownhomie DRAFTING FOR THEBears
The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. The Bears indulged a want in Williams while a need in interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots stayed open. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Williams value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The cost of the Clark reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
