Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Bears lost the trade table, and the B- tells the story.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Bears spent the 183rd pick on Jaylon Carlies, a name the board had a full 40 spots lower. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Spann-Ford value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In the 5th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value.
Pick6 Rnd1 Joe Alt
In pick No. 6 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Taliese Fuaga
Taliese Fuaga in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick69 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
A straight-up fair deal on Sedrick Van Pran at pick 69, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick105 Rnd4 Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at No. 105 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick143 Rnd5 Kedon Slovis
By-the-book stuff, Kedon Slovis at the 143rd pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick183 Rnd6 Jaylon Carlies
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaylon Carlies this early at the 183rd overall pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick226 Rnd7 Brevyn Spann-Ford
Taking Brevyn Spann-Ford in No. 226 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
