Best value of the weekend goes to the Bears for McKinney: D-. Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
If Keenan III pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. McKinney at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 25th overall pick they get the heartbeat of the defense, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick57
Rnd2
A'Mauri Washington
A straight-up fair deal on A'Mauri Washington at Round 2, Pick 25, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick66
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A reasonable price with a little left over, A.J. Haulcy in slot 66. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick89
Rnd3
Deion Burks
A real head-scratcher, Deion Burks in pick No. 89 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick129
Rnd4
Tim Keenan III
Tim Keenan III in No. 129 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick163
Rnd5
DJ McKinney
DJ McKinney at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick239
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Zuhn III. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick241
Rnd7
Dane Key
Dane Key at pick 241 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
