Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB+ NeedC+ TradesF FutureB-
Pieper should have been long gone. The Bears pounced, and earned a D-.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.

The cost of the Marshall reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

The Moore pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback. The Pieper value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Leonard Moore
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback to take Leonard Moore, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick53 Rnd2 Justin Scott
Justin Scott in pick No. 53 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick84 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper in the 84th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick88 Rnd3 Devan Thompkins
Devan Thompkins at pick 88 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick121 Rnd4 Kingston Lopa
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Kingston Lopa adds a safety and leaves quarterback untouched.
Pick125 Rnd4 Raylen Wilson
Nice patience on Raylen Wilson, who had no business lasting to No. 125. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick147 Rnd5 Jordan Marshall
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jordan Marshall this early at pick No. 147. It fills a real need, too.
Pick157 Rnd5 A.J. Harris
By-the-book stuff, A.J. Harris at the 157th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick201 Rnd6 Fox Crader
Fox Crader at slot 201 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jordan Faison
No edge and no loss on Jordan Faison in the 241st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
