Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D+
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Bears to a D+.

Nobody had Cole Sullivan this high, and it is not close. The Bears reached 68 spots to get him at Round 6, Pick 23. Too much went sideways, and the D+ is the honest tally.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They banked enough surplus on Montgomery to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Justin Scott
In slot 23 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick54 Rnd2 Ashton Hampton
By-the-book stuff, Ashton Hampton at pick No. 54 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick85 Rnd3 Dom Nichols
They reached into another round for Dom Nichols, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117 Rnd4 Luke Montgomery
Luke Montgomery at the 117th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
Pick121 Rnd4 DJ McKinney
They reached a country mile for DJ McKinney at Round 4, Pick 20, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick148 Rnd5 Jordan Marshall
A big swing on Jordan Marshall at No. 148, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick202 Rnd6 Cole Sullivan
Cole Sullivan in slot 202 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick243 Rnd7 Xavier Chaplin
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Xavier Chaplin. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
