Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureC
Quarterback settled, Williams in the fold, and a D- for the Bears.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Bears took Jared Wiley a full 59 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Put together, it is a D-.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick 1 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In the 9th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick33 Rnd2 Bralen Trice
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bralen Trice. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick65 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
Value said wait; Sedrick Van Pran in pick No. 65 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick75 Rnd3 Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson in the 75th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick101 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Darius Robinson. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick107 Rnd4 Dominick Puni
They did well to land Dominick Puni in the 107th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick110 Rnd4 Isaiah Adams
They paid up for Isaiah Adams at slot 110 when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick120 Rnd4 Cam Hart
A conviction pick on Cam Hart at the Round 4 slot that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick122 Rnd4 Cole Bishop
They paid sticker price for Cole Bishop in pick 122, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick143 Rnd5 Theo Johnson
No edge and no loss on Theo Johnson in No. 143; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick146 Rnd5 Jared Wiley
A real head-scratcher, Jared Wiley in pick No. 146 is miles ahead of his ranking. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick198 Rnd6 Emani Bailey
Emani Bailey at Round 6, Pick 23 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick241 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry at the 241st pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
