Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B

FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Bears: B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bears did exactly that with Braelon Allen in the Round 4 slot. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 2nd pick they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value.
Pick9
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In slot 9 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 40 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick67
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
They reached into another round for Michael Hall Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Nothing to complain about; Brenden Rice went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick102
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaden Hicks. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick110
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick122
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen at Round 4, Pick 22 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick146
Rnd5
Javion Cohen
No drama and no debate, Javion Cohen went about where he belonged in pick No. 146. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
