Williams is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: D+. The Bears lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. Put together, it is a D+.
Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The cost of the Cole reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. The Tracy Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In the 3rd overall pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Malik Nabers
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A tidy little value on Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 34, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick44
Rnd2
Troy Fautanu
They barely believed it either: Troy Fautanu still on the board at slot 44. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick52
Rnd2
Ruke Orhorhoro
No edge and no loss on Ruke Orhorhoro in pick 52; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick70
Rnd3
Bralen Trice
They paid sticker price for Bralen Trice in the 70th pick, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick83
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick103
Rnd4
Cam Hart
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cam Hart at pick No. 103 is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick154
Rnd5
Tyrone Tracy Jr.
They will replay Tyrone Tracy Jr. at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick196
Rnd6
Myles Cole
Myles Cole at the 196th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
