Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA FutureB
The Bears cashed the board's mistake on Higgins: B+.

Somebody in Round 5, Pick 12 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Jay Higgins, the No. 61 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

If Monheim pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Nick Emmanwori
By-the-book stuff, Nick Emmanwori at the Round 1 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick40 Rnd2 Jack Sawyer
Nothing to complain about; Jack Sawyer went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick43 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
The board had Tate Ratledge higher than Round 2, Pick 11, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick74 Rnd3 Derrick Harmon
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Derrick Harmon in pick 74, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick150 Rnd5 Jay Higgins
Steal is underselling it; Jay Higgins at slot 150 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick151 Rnd5 Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim in the 151st pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick203 Rnd6 Jonah Coleman
Taking Jonah Coleman in pick No. 203 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick228 Rnd7 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in No. 228 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick244 Rnd7 De'Corian Clark
Value said wait; De'Corian Clark in pick No. 244 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
