Some hits, some head-scratchers, and a C for the Bills. The Bills went off the board in a big way for Trey Taylor, 91 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. For now it grades a C, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
Rosengarten falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The Solomon pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback and tight end. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
A tidy little value on Brian Thomas Jr. in pick No. 28, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick33
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
The board had cheaper options than Edgerrin Cooper at slot 33, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick41
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T'Vondre Sweat. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick65
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
They jumped the gun on Xavier Legette, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick99
Rnd3
Cam Hart
They did well to land Cam Hart in Round 3, Pick 36, just ahead of his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick129
Rnd4
Javon Solomon
A curious use of the 129th overall pick. Quarterback and tight end needed the pick; an OLB-EDGE in Javon Solomon did not.
Pick143
Rnd5
Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe in pick No. 143 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick159
Rnd5
Dillon Johnson
They liked Dillon Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in the 159th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick162
Rnd5
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten in the 162nd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick198
Rnd6
Cedric Johnson
A reach for Cedric Johnson in Round 6, Pick 23; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick202
Rnd6
Garret Greenfield
A big swing on Garret Greenfield at slot 202, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick206
Rnd6
Trey Taylor
Trey Taylor in pick 206 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
