Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Bears robbed the room for Fitzgerald. Final grade: B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bears were there to profit. Ryan Fitzgerald, the No. 117 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 17. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

They will need Belton to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Mike Green
In pick 10 they get a problem off the edge, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in No. 39 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick41 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
A safety of that caliber at the 41st pick is the definition of value, full stop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick72 Rnd3 Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton at the 72nd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick149 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
They reached a country mile for Cobee Bryant at Round 5, Pick 10, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick197 Rnd6 Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick235 Rnd7 Ryan Fitzgerald
Ryan Fitzgerald in slot 235 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick242 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser in pick No. 242 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
