Draft Grade — Colts
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA- FutureA
The Colts won the night they stopped Lachey from sliding. Grade: B+.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Luke Lachey got past him. The Colts do not have to explain a thing at No. 232.

That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will answer for taking cornerback early while wide receiver, interior defensive lineman and other spots went begging. Dawson Knox gives the group a proven body among the projects.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In slot 30 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick45 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
They read the board right and Jihaad Campbell was the payoff at the 45th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick80 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston is a better player than pick 80 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick109 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at Round 4, Pick 7 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick117 Rnd4 Zy Alexander
A curious use of the 117th pick. Wide receiver, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Zy Alexander did not.
Pick151 Rnd5 Dillon Gabriel
Taking Dillon Gabriel in pick No. 151 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick177 Rnd6 Ajani Cornelius
Fair-plus on Ajani Cornelius, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick189 Rnd6 Ollie Gordon II
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ollie Gordon II at the Round 6 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick232 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in No. 232 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
