Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureC
The phones sank the Vikings this weekend: D.

Nobody else had Haynes King anywhere near Round 7, Pick 27. The Vikings did, by 56 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In pick No. 11 they get a ballhawk on the back end, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
A clean, defensible pick in the 43rd overall pick with a little surplus value in Sonny Styles. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick64 Rnd2 Keith Abney II
A premium they did not need to pay, Keith Abney II a notch or two before his time. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick75 Rnd3 Eli Stowers
Nothing to complain about; Eli Stowers went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick76 Rnd3 Nyck Harbor
They paid a round early for Nyck Harbor in Round 3, Pick 12, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick114 Rnd4 Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price at slot 114 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick197 Rnd6 Lee Hunter
They liked Lee Hunter enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 6, Pick 17. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick226 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
A reach for Trey Zuhn III in pick 226; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick242 Rnd7 Haynes King
Haynes King at slot 242 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
