Williams should have been long gone. The Browns pounced, and earned a A-. The Browns ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
The Williams pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
In the end it comes back to Olaivavega Ioane, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Pick28
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In slot 28 they get a green-dot type in the middle at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick38
Rnd2
Brandon Cisse
A clean, defensible pick in the 38th pick with a little surplus value in Brandon Cisse. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick70
Rnd3
Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick108
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford at No. 108 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick139
Rnd5
Tim Keenan III
Tim Keenan III at the 139th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick147
Rnd5
Beau Stephens
Good price on Beau Stephens in No. 147, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Pick204
Rnd6
Dallen Bentley
Nice patience on Dallen Bentley, who had no business lasting to pick No. 204. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick248
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at pick 248 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick255
Rnd7
Diego Pavia
Diego Pavia in the Round 7 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
