Draft Grade — Bills
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Bills.

The Bills did not so much draft Ethan Downs as overpay for him, 84 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

Getting Watts where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with linebacker chief among the fixes. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
In pick 30 they get a load in the middle, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick56 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
Value with a capital V on Xavier Watts in Round 2, Pick 24, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick62 Rnd2 TreVeyon Henderson
A tidy bit of business in the 62nd pick, where TreVeyon Henderson graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Pick109 Rnd4 Zy Alexander
They paid sticker price for Zy Alexander in pick No. 109, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick132 Rnd4 Cody Simon
Cody Simon at the 132nd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick169 Rnd5 Que Robinson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Que Robinson well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick170 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They paid up for Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 170th pick when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick173 Rnd5 Nazir Stackhouse
They reached a country mile for Nazir Stackhouse at pick 173, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick177 Rnd6 Isaac TeSlaa
This one needs a full-page explanation: Isaac TeSlaa in the 177th overall pick, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick206 Rnd6 Ethan Downs
They talked themselves into Ethan Downs at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
