Larceny in pick No. 161 lands the Vikings a B, Neal and all. The Vikings did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Devin Neal fell into pick No. 161.
If McLaughlin pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In the 31st pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick91
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Donovan Jackson in No. 91. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick97
Rnd3
Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore in pick 97 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick108
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in the 108th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick132
Rnd4
Mello Dotson
Mello Dotson at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick140
Rnd5
Jackson Slater
A reach for Jackson Slater in Round 5, Pick 1; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick161
Rnd5
Devin Neal
Devin Neal at slot 161 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick205
Rnd6
Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at pick No. 205 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick206
Rnd6
Mac McWilliams
A reach on Mac McWilliams in Round 6, Pick 28; the board had better options right there. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
