The Saints let Sarratt fall and pounced. Final grade: B-.

Call it larceny. Elijah Sarratt sat on the board until No. 73, and the Saints did not need to be asked twice.

The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting Allar proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered. The back end got a real overhaul.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

In pick 8 they get a two-high chess piece at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick42 Rnd2 Zion Young
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zion Young. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick73 Rnd3 Elijah Sarratt
Somehow Elijah Sarratt was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 9, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132 Rnd4 Chris McClellan
They paid sticker price for Chris McClellan in slot 132, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick136 Rnd4 Drew Allar
They paid a round early for Drew Allar in the 136th overall pick, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.

A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaeden Roberts in No. 148. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
