Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the 49ers, and a B- to prove it.

The one they had to fix is still broken. The 49ers left interior defensive lineman untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

They will need McCaffrey to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Still at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Jordan Morgan
In pick No. 31 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 Brenden Rice
A straight-up fair deal on Brenden Rice at the 63rd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
No edge and no loss on Zak Zinter in No. 94; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick98 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at pick 98 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick132 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
They jumped the gun on Luke McCaffrey, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick176 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. in slot 176 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick209 Rnd6 JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand at the 209th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick214 Rnd6 Tarheeb Still
Tarheeb Still at the Round 6 slot is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick215 Rnd6 Christian Jones
Christian Jones at No. 215 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick249 Rnd7 Matthew Jones
A premium they did not need to pay, Matthew Jones a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
