Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall D
ValueB NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Commanders to a D.

The phones were a trap the Commanders kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.

The Lyons reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Lawson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In the Round 1 slot they get a centerfielder for the defense. More want than need.
Pick57 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
The board had Emmanuel Pregnon higher than slot 57, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick71 Rnd3 Deontae Lawson
Deontae Lawson in the 71st pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick129 Rnd4 Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss slid further than he should have, and pick 129 is lovely value for the quarterback. It fills a real need, too.
Pick145 Rnd5 Domani Jackson
A clean, defensible pick in No. 145 with a little surplus value in Domani Jackson. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick163 Rnd5 Aaron Anderson
Aaron Anderson is a better player than the 163rd overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick185 Rnd6 Josh Moten
Josh Moten in pick No. 185 lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick196 Rnd6 Trey Zuhn III
No drama and no debate, Trey Zuhn III went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 17. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick223 Rnd7 Shamar Easter
They liked Shamar Easter enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 7, Pick 7. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick239 Rnd7 Jamari Lyons
Value said wait; Jamari Lyons in No. 239 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick241 Rnd7 Will Kacmarek
A straight-up fair deal on Will Kacmarek at the 241st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
