Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall

FutureB
The Commanders won the night they stopped Starks from sliding. Grade: D+. The Commanders bet big and early on Antwaun Powell-Ryland, 30 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D+ is the result.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They banked enough surplus on Starks to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball. Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant slid further than he should have, and pick 33 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick53
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Somehow Omarion Hampton was still sitting there in the Round 2 slot, and they pounced on premier running back value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick61
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
The board fumbled Malaki Starks all the way to Round 2, Pick 29, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick67
Rnd3
Darien Porter
They paid up for Darien Porter at the 67th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94
Rnd3
David Walker
David Walker at No. 94 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick96
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Andrew Mukuba graded well above the range. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick109
Rnd4
Zy Alexander
By-the-book stuff, Zy Alexander at pick No. 109 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick121
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at Round 4, Pick 19 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick125
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at the 125th overall pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick128
Rnd4
Terrance Ferguson
The board had Terrance Ferguson higher than the 128th pick, and the tight end fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick132
Rnd4
Jeffrey Bassa
They did well to land Jeffrey Bassa in pick 132, just ahead of his grade. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick133
Rnd4
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Antwaun Powell-Ryland well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick199
Rnd6
Woody Marks
A tidy little value on Woody Marks in slot 199, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick205
Rnd6
Cam Miller
No edge and no loss on Cam Miller in the 205th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick216
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins is a better player than No. 216 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick245
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
A reasonable price with a little left over, Isaac TeSlaa in the 245th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick256
Rnd7
Bilhal Kone
Bilhal Kone in pick 256 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
